At least 350 Russian conscripts have been killed in the war with Ukraine. Here is the list of their names
According to Mediazona’s count, at least 350 Russian conscript soldiers who did not sign a contract with the Ministry of Defence were killed in the war with Ukraine. These individuals were already included in our list of those who died in the war with Ukraine, but we had not singled them out into a separate category.
Officially, Russia does not send conscripts to the war.
The first reports of conscripts participating in the invasion emerged as early as February–March 2022. At that time, the Ministry of Defence acknowledged “a few instances” where conscripted soldiers were present in units fighting on Ukrainian territory. “Almost all such service members have since been withdrawn to Russian territory,” Igor Konashenkov, chief spokesman for the military, stated on March 9, 2022.
Nevertheless, casualties among this group have not disappeared entirely. Russia officially deploys conscripts to guard its border regions. The deadliest incident involving conscripts occurred during the Ukrainian incursion into the Kursk region in August 2024, when at least 60 conscripts were killed over the course of a month.
In addition to combat along the border, conscripts are also frequently killed by shelling from the Ukrainian army.
The 350 soldiers on our list were conscripts at the time of their death.A separate risk factor is the pressure on conscripts to sign contracts—a process that often involves deception or coercion.
We have also identified nearly 700 individuals who signed a contract during their mandatory military service. In most cases, it is impossible to determine whether these decisions were made voluntarily. Currently, we do not place them in a separate category, counting only those who were conscripts at the time of their death—though this approach may change in the future.
The names of the 350 conscripts killed can be found below, as well as in a dedicated section on the losses list.
